Detroit City’s Dominating Season Lands Four on the First Team
CHICAGO (December14, 2021) – The National Independent Soccer Association today announced the 2021 All-League Teams. Unsurprisingly, Detroit City FC dominated the first team with four players honored. First Team honorees as determined by the NISA office panel in blind voting (*unanimous):
(as identified on match day rosters)
Forwards
Omar Nuño - Cal United Strikers FC*
Mayele Malango - New Amsterdam FC*
Wojciech Wojcik - Chicago House AC*
Midfielders
Maxi Rodriguez - Detroit City FC*
Steven Juncaj - Michigan Stars FC*
Diego Barrera - Los Angeles Force*
Connor Rutz - Detroit City FC
Defenders
Stephen Carroll - Detroit City FC*
Nick Spielman - Chattanooga FC
Devon Amoo-Mensah - Michigan Stars FC
GK
Nate Steinwascher - Detroit City FC*
Steinwascher’s selection follows his earning the Golden Glove as top keeper last spring. Nuño set the goal-scoring pace for the league with 12. Malago and Wojcik sat just behind him. In the midfield, Rodriguez’s stats and impact on game flow made him the top choice in midfield. Impact and stats in a concentrated number of minutes helped bring Juncaj and Barrera to the fore. Rutz was a perfect balance in point accumulation to Rodriguez.
At the back, it is impossible to miss the leadership of Carroll on the club that would not give up goal differential. No less aggressive in defense, but logging maximum minutes in the field, are Amoo-Mensah and Speilman.
“This season saw some amazing individual performances in the name of the clubs,” said NISA Commissioner John Prutch. “Each of these players also demonstrated the professionalism we expect and appreciate both on and off the pitch.”
