NISA Announces September Performers of the Month Awards

Oct 5, 2022

CHICAGO (October 5, 2022) – Today the National Independent Soccer Association announced its September Performers of the Month awards. Determined by a select set of NISA front office staff, the winners are:

  • Player of the Month: Player who demonstrated his abilities on the field above and beyond any other player in the league.
    • Markus Naglestad, Chattanooga FC : Naglestad returned to his early-season form in September. He led the league with five goals in September bringing his season total to 18 – tops in the league. Naglestad’s exploits also helped propel his club to a 4-2-0 mark in the month.

  • Coach of the Month: Coach who led his team to significant results and led by example both on and off the field.
    • Rod Underwood, Chattanooga FC : Having gone without a win since August 6, the club turned it around in September winning four and tying two. This included a 2-1 result against ALBION San Diego on Sept. 28 to clinch a first-round bye and home match in the semi-finals.

  • Club of the Month: An off the field award to the Club that best promoted their brand and image within their local community.
    • Flower City Union : The club has been out in the community quite a bit, including a “Club President for a Day” contest launched last month. The club hosted 30-plus local businesses at a home friendly match against Syracuse Pulse on Sept. 7. Finally, it participated in partner organization Urban League of Rochester’s annual Interrupt Racism Summit week.

  • Operations Team of the Month: Awarded to the Game Day Operations staff who best embraced and followed the league standards set forth by the league office.
    • ALBION San Diego : The club has shown consistent operational improvement over the course of its first NISA season. It continued to demonstrate a level of professionalism during a busy window of the calendar with six games scheduled in the month of September (three home, three away). ALBION San Diego also overcame logistical obstacles, including a quick adjustment to hosting a match at its secondary venue (Cal State San Marcos University).
