CHICAGO – October 30, 2022
WHAT:
No. 3 seed Michigan Stars FC and no. 4 seed ALBION San Diego survived their semi-finals tests to set up the 2022 National Independent Soccer Association championship. MSFC will host the match at Romeo Stadium in Washington, Mich.
After a scoreless first half, MSFC’s Leon Maric headed home a Steven Juncaj corner in the 55th minute – his fourth goal of the season. From there, the Stars settled in with strong defense and dangerous counters for a 0-1 win. While both clubs finished with 10 men, CFC went down first with a 75th minute red to Colin Stripling.
ALBION earned its spot yesterday with a convincing 2-4 win over top-seed Cal United Strikers FC at Championship Stadium in Irvine, Calif. The visitors took a seemingly commanding lead behind a 17th minute goal by Lennyn Carreon and a 38th minute tally by Mayele Malango. It only took another minute for CAL to cut that lead in half thanks to an Omar Nuno penalty kick. Shinya Kadono brought CAL all the way back in the 51st minute.
But the last 15 minutes belonged to ALBION. Jonathan Bazaes had a 74th minute put-back. Alioune Diakhate – NISA’s second-leading scorer this season with 12 – sealed it off a feed from Malango in the 83rd.
Head-to-head, MSFC and ALBION split the series this season. On Sept. 10, ALBION cruised to a 3-0 victory in San Diego. MSFC took the win on Oct. 5 with a 2-0 triumph at home.
