Media Alert: NISA Championship Match Play-By-Play Team

Nov 5, 2022
Trey Bender Returns; NISA Player Michael Kafari Debuts

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHICAGO – November 4, 2022

WHAT:

The National Independent Soccer Association today announced its play-byplay and analyst team for the 2022 Championship match on Sunday, Nov. 4, on ElevenSPorts.com

Returning as play-by-play announcer is industry veteran Trey Bender. Bender led booth duties during the 2021 Match of the Week and playoffs telecast on beIN SPORTS XTRA. He is joined by Syracuse Pulse defenseman Michael Kafari who is making his professional soccer analyst debut. Kafari brings deep knowledge of the league having played on four NISA clubs.

“We couldn’t be happier to have Trey back,” says NISA Commissioner John Prutch. “He brings a strong and grounded voice to the production. And having Michael join him is a huge bonus. He really knows the clubs and players like few others. We look forward to some strong chemistry.”

Bender has been a primary play-by-play voice across football, basketball, baseball, and swimming for ESPNU, ESPN Plus, ESPN3, and NBC Universal.

“It’s always exciting to call a championship in any sport,” Bender says. “Working with a respected soccer defender in Michael Kafari only enhances the experience. I've had a chance to call NCAA soccer and MLS, as well as last season’s NISA Championship and am excited for the opportunity in Michigan.”

While this marks Kafari’s first effort on the professional level, he provided analysis for his club Syracuse’s women’s team throughout the 2022 season. He played his college soccer at the University of New Mexico before embarking on a now 11-year career. Those years included stops at Charleston Battery, Sporting Kansas City and Detroit City FC.

“While I’d rathe be playing in this final, I’m privileged to still play a role in bringing the league to soccer fans across the globe,” Kafari says. “These are two tough clubs, and I am certain Trey and I will have a lot of great soccer to talk about.”
