CHICAGO (June 21, 2023) – The National Independent Soccer Association (NISA) today delivered two-year suspensions from any league-related activities for the use of racist and homophobic language in the confines of a match. The move comes after a league investigation. The players had been released by Maryland Bobcats FC upon notification of the incident and completion of its own investigation.
"We are an anti-racist and equity-driven organization, and I commend Maryland on its quick decision," said NISA Commissioner John Prutch. "Throughout the investigation we consulted with our DEI Committee to have a voice in every decision.
"There will never be room in this league for the actions and attitudes displayed last weekend, and there shouldn't be any in our game, sports or society," he continued.
